Goodbye, 2009

Last day of 2009.

Wow.

Cliche but, cepatnya masa berlalu! Haha. Masih merasa seperti baru berusia 17 tahun! (okay, so what if that's 10 years ago?!)

As I sit and recall the things that happened in 2009, yang manis, yang pahit, yang buruk, yang indah, hal-hal yang membuat saya sedar,

I have so much to thank Allah for.

Kadang manusia terlupa, untuk bersyukur for the simple things in life. The air we breathe, the money we take home every month, the food on our table, the smiles from strangers, the ability to walk, talk, laugh or even cry, the REAL friends around us, or even the enemies (sebab kita best baru ada enemies, kalau kita tak best maka orang tak jeles), the sounds we hear, the colors we see...

Semua itu bukan satu hak. Itu anugerah.

Alhamdulillah.

For years, I prayed to Allah for someone to love, someone who loves me just the way I am.

2009, he came into my life.

Warning: People, kindly skip the next sentence supaya tak muntah-muntah darah.

To Anugerah Terindah Yang Pernah Ku Miliki, Thank you for your patience, understanding, care, sacrifices and love. May Allah give me the chance to spend the lifetime repaying what you have given to me, Amien.

HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!

WELCOME 2010!!!

Makassar: Tracing My Roots

Setiap kali orang menyebut perkataan Makassar, pasti memcetus perbualan dengan Ibu, tentang niat to retrace my roots.

Iya, saya berdarah Bugis. On my late father's side. Atuk masih menyimpan salasilah keluarga dimana dimulai oleh nama seorang lelaki Bugis yang kedengaran amat macho, "Daeng Penalang Bugis". Wahhh , bukan main hebat namanya!

Altho I don't stay true to my Bugis blood sebab saya cepat mabok laut padahal orang Bugis terkenal sebagai seafarers unggul.

Tapi kekurangan pengetahuan saya bakal segera berakhir, InsyaAllah. Because...

Makassar to have Museum In Malaysia

I am sure, everyone knows that Bugis people used to travel overseas, to many nations like Malaysia, Singapore, India, Madagascar, Srilanka, South Africa, and some prefered to settle there and call the newland home. I have many Singaporean and Malaysian friends whose anchestors were Bugis people. In Singapore, Bugis Junction is one of the hottest spot for shopping.

Looks like the bond becomes better now when the Makassar city administration in South Sulawesi province, will open a museum in Malaysia in 2010, in view of the Malaysian government's plan to open a museum through the Malacca museum agency in Makassar.

They would soon carry out the plan now that discussions had already been held between the Makassar cultural and tourism office and the Malacca museum agency. Well, i think it is become clearer that friendship between Indonesia and its neighbor is unavoidable, something we need to pursue.

Welcome home, friendship :)

(Side-creator of GNFI, Farina Jamal, a Malaysian, is also a Bugisnese in blood)

Source: GNFI

Ngehehe. Ayat terakhir tu memang siap2 ada, okeh. Tidak ditokok tambah oleh yours truly. To be acknowledge as a Bugisnese is an honor, to be named as side creator of GNFI, waaaaaa! Terharu biru! Thanks Bro Arry!

And I can't wait to take my grandparents to this museum.

Maybe I should start a Good News From Malaysia blog pula. Should I? *mikir*

Ketidaksempurnaan Padaku

Tapi hasilnya sama. Sebuah ketidaksempurnaan yang berbuah sempurna.

And you call it fate.

skirt pendek, padahal tengok blackberry awek tu.

Pakai baju hijau, pakwe anda paling anti warna hijau.

Bulu hidung panjang.

Ada jerawat gedabak atas batang hidung.

Kentut busuk.

dan lagi dan lagi dan lagi.

Sebuah hakikat.

Haruskah kuulangi lagi
Kata cintaku padamu
Yakinkan dirimu

Masihkah terlintas didada
Keraguanmu itu
Susahkan hatimu

Tak akan ada cinta yang lain
Pastikan cintaku hanya untukmu
Pernahkah terbersit olehmu
Akupun takut kehilangan... Dirimu

Ingatkah satu bait kenangan
Cerita cinta kita
Tak mungkin terlupa

Buang semua angan mulukmu itu
Percaya takdir kita
Aku cinta padamu

Akankah nanti
Terulang lagi
Jalinan cinta semu
Dengar bisikku
Bukalah mata hatimu

Setiap kau berkata ingin sendiri, bisa jadi kau membiarkan cinta berlalu begitu saja...

Bukannya Aku Takut

ku tak peduli
bila ku benar-benar cinta mati
ku tak peduli

ku memang begini
bila ku benar-benar cinta mati
ku tak peduli
apa saja yang ku inginkan kamu rela

bukannya aku takut akan kehilangan dirimu
tapi aku takut kehilangan cintamu
mungkin saja saat itu kau mempermainkan aku
seakan kau bisa membalas cintaku

kau takkan mengerti
yang selama ini aku rasakan, pasti
kau tak peduli
bila saja yang ku inginkan kamu rela

Bermimpilah, kerana Tuhan memeluk mimpi-mimpimu...

I watched Sang Pemimpi last week! On the day it open in the Indonesian cinemas!

HURRAH!

He's the shiznit!

He captured the exact essence of Arai, seperti mana yang digambarkan dalam buku, dan seperti mana yang saya bayangkan dalam angan-angan. Nakal, pintar, penuh idea, tidak kacak tapi penuh karisma. I loike!

Banyak yang bertanya, how's Ariel in Sang Pemimpi? Well, pendapat saya, dia tidaklah mengecewakan. I find it hard at first to adapt to seeing him wearing baju kampung, selekeh...but after a while he is believable. But to compete with Randy who played the younger version of Arai is not an easy task, not even for an accomplish actor, apatah lagi a beginner like Ariel. Rendy is sooooo damn good ok! Good try tho, Ariel. Now I am more looking forward to 'Edensor', since that will be the story about Arai dan Ikal serta kehidupan mereka di Paris. Hahaha...so dari awal sampaiiiii habis, ada Ariel. Yeayyy!

I cried at some parts, despite having read the book before, much to Encik Pacar's amusement. Sedih siot! For me, scenes dengan Ayah Ikal memang buat air mata tak mahu berhenti. Kalau tengok sendiri mesti dah pause layan nangis puas-puas baru sambung balik.

I so miss my dad :-(

And again I cried when Jimbron bid farewell to his 2 bestfriends, giving them tabungan kuda to support their life in Jakarta. Touching!

Maudy Ayunda who played Zakiah Nurmala. Memang dia cantik!

And this, was sang by Rendy Ahmad himself, to woo the love of his life, Zakiah Nurmala. I can't help but swoon. *sigh*

Fatwa Pujangga

T'lah kuterima suratmu nan lalu
Penuh sanjungan kata merayu
Syair dan pantun tersusun indah, sayang
Bagaikan madah fatwa pujangga

Kan kusimpan suratmu nan itu
Bak pusaka yang amat bermutu
Walau kita tak lagi bersua, sayang
Cukup sudah cintamu setia

Tapi sayang sayang sayang
Seribu kali sayang
Ke manakah risalahku
Nak kualamatkan

Terimalah jawapanku ini
Hanyalah doa restu Ilahi
Moga lah Dik kau tak putus asa, sayang
Pasti kelak kita kan bersua

My verdict: MUST WATCH!

The One

Take a second out to think about this:

In your life you search and search for the right person for you. Every time you break up with someone you get one step closer to that person. You should look at moving on as getting closer to meeting the one.

Ian Philpot

Tegarlah Sang Pemimpi!

Saat semua orang bercerita tentang New Moon, the 2nd installation of the Twilight saga, saya tak sabar menunggu Sang Pemimpi, buku kedua dalam tetralogi Laskar Pelangi yang difilemkan!

Cover buku nukilan Andrea Hirata

Poster Filem

Sang Pemimpi adalah kesinambungan cerita Laskar Pelangi, mengisahkan kisah hidup Ikal di waktu SMA (high school). My favourite among all 4 books, I simply adore the story of friendship, love and hope dripping from every pages.

Dan itulah Arai, and he will be played by Ariel Peterpan!

*swoon*

This star studded movie will begin showing in Indonesian theaters on 17th December!

Tak sabar!!!

A reader of this blog, Mbak Ira, kindly shared stories about the beauty of Pulau Belitung, where the movie is set. And I quote her words, "it's the best place for a honeymoon!"

*hint, hint*

One of 1000 places I must go before I die.

Bersyukurlah pada Yang Maha Kuasa,
Hargailah orang2 yang menyayangimu
Dan selalu ada setia disisimu.
Siapapun jangan kau pernah sakiti,

Tegarlah sang pemimpi!

Sejarah

Aku selalu memikirkannya
Siapa dia sebelum daku
Gadis kau puja hingga kecewa
Kini kau tak menyatakan

Aku pun jua sering tertanya
Siapa dia sebelum daku
Pria kau puja hingga merana
Kau merahsiakan dariku

Sejak kau wujud dalam hidupku
Semuanya telah terpadam
Bak bayangan yang indah
Di malam purnama
Di telan mentari pagi

Apa disentuh sejarah dulu
Hanya menyakit hati sendiri
Telah ditemukan kita berdua
Engkaulah sinar hidupku

Engkaulah sinar...
Engkaulah pelita...
Engkaulah sinar...hidupku

Day 5: Enjoy Jakarta

Day 5: The Day We Played with Babies!

Last day for Naem and Im, jadi sepagian dihabiskan sambil packing barang mereka dan nonton infotainment. Mom has become an infotainment addict, sampai rindu2 semenjak balik KL. How will she follow the gossips about KD and Anang? How?! HOW???!!

So anyway. Their last day in Jakarta, and baru Ael sudi digendong. Haha...selalu begitu dia! All the time we were there, sangatlah sombong Si Pipi Bakpao itu! Tak pernah mau digendong, nak sentuh dia pun kena berlari keliling rumah mengejar dia, not unlike scene rogol filem 80an.

Kasihan Kak Im yang since the night before, tak berapa sihat. Mengikut pemerhatian kami yang KONON bijak pandai, sakit rindu, sepertinya. Eh eh eh. :-D

Miniature of Brian. Gila, mirip banget! (ya iyalah, emang anaknya kaliiiiii...)

"Ael nak ikut!!!"

Damn, I miss this lil guy

Beautiful Neysa, Ael's cousin

Leaving Aie's place, we head to Dytha's house in Slipi.

Dytha married a friend of ours, Philos, a year ago. Co-incidentally I was in Jakarta when their reception was held last year, so I accompanied Aie there. That was the first time I met Dytha.

Setahun kemudian, they welcome a new addition to their family, Ahmad Khansa Naufa.

Ihhhh...comel comel *geram geram*

Mom immediately hit it off with Dytha's mom, Tante Rani. Dan dari situ lah Dytha berkenalan dengan Philos, who, at that time, was working with Sheila Management.

Tante Rani adalah seorang yang sangat cool, Mak langsung jadi BFF with her sampai kitorang pergi airport hantar Im dan Naem pun Mak tak nak ikut, nak stay di rumah Tante Rani. Ternyata right after we left, mereka langsung bergegas ke kedai peralatan buat kuih! Cheh. Patutlah tak nak ikut. I guess Mom is bored asyik bertemankan remaja (eceh, remaja konon) seperti kami, dapat geng rakan sebaya terus happy.

After sending off Im and Naem to the airport, we went back to Dytha's place to play with Khansa. Hehehe.

Mak kata, ini petanda buat saya bahawa saya dah boleh secepatnya make babies. Coz my lil sis can take care of them. Hahaha. Bagus, jimat duit bayar gaji bibik

Then, we all went for lunch @ Hoka Hoka Bento, Mal Taman Anggerek. 1st time Khansa ke mal, dan sedikit pun tak rewel! Am so proud of you, Khansa!

Setelah bersalam-salaman dan berjanji-janjian dengan Tante Rani to meet up the day after for some serious shopping session in Tanah Abang, kami pamit.

Malamnya kami berbeza rencana, Mak dan Dila asked Andre, our supir, to take them on 'Jakarta Undercover Tour'. Mak nak tengok banci (read: pondan). Berkali-kali Andre urut dada dan beristighfar. Hahaha. Gile lawak ingat ekspresi dia masa tuh!

While I went to Grand Indonesia and had coffee with a couple friends.

End of day 5...end of nice pics courtesy of Naem. Expect not so nice pics in the upcoming entries!

To be continued...

Pengapit=Kahwin Lambat?

Saya bertambah suka mendengar HotFM semenjak dua menjak ini.

Semenjak dua menjak Azhar Sulaiman jadi host sementara menggantikan Fara Fauzana yang sedang cuti sakit.

Semenjak dua menjak suara dia yang pernah menghiasi mimpi-mimpi di tahun 1992 (kantoi sangat gedik, umur 10 dah pandai nak mimpi2 kan orang!) mula mengisi ruang radio setiap pagi.

And he's quite good at it!

Tapi pagi tadi dia bilang,
"Biasanya orang yang menyanyi kat kenduri kahwin, kahwin lambat. Macam pengapit, biasanya kahwin lambat. So jangan selalu-selalu jadi pengapit, kang kahwin lambat haaa..."

GULP.

Hahahahahahaha.

Mudah-mudahan tak masin lah mulut Azhar.

nota: he's good tho. wish hotfm would make him permanent.

Gambar hiasan: Sewaktu saya menjadi pengapit

Pantang Larang Orang Tua2 untuk Si Anak Dara:

--->kantoi dah. I konpem dah lebih dari itu.

--->Siti Nurhaliza pernah buat kot?

3. Jangan carik kutu kat tangga nanti kahwin dengan orang tua…
--->ye lah, perangai sangat makcik2 nanti pakcik2 lah yang berkenan.

4. Jangan cucuk jarum waktu malam, nanti nasib jadi sial…
--->kalau jari dah tercucuk jarum, memang sial

5. Jangan lah korang tengok cermin retak, nanti korang punya muka pucat pada malam pertama…
--->cermin retak tu bahaya. cuba bayangkan, tengah2 belek muka, pecah...kena tangan, luka...darah banyak keluar...memang lah pucat muka tu

6. Pantang anak dara bangun lambat…nanti lambat dapat jodoh…
--->kena cop pemalas, orang takut la masuk meminang. hahahahaha...

7. Jangan makan bertindih/double pinggan…nanti korang akan bermadu.
--->orang dulu-dulu tak cukup pinggan, dah tu amik lak sorang 2 pinggan, macam mana orang lain nak makan? Jangan tamak, geng

8. Jangan angkat kaki masa meniarap nanti emak mati.
--->yang iyanya, tak senonoh. meniarap, angkat-angkat kaki plak. nampak betis peha poen apa semua, mak tengok pun boleh sakit dada.

9. Makan pisang kembar, nanti beranak kembar.
--->erk??

10. Tidur lepas makan nanti perut buncit.
--->this is true. tapi tetapppp gak aku selalu tidur lepas makan. patutlah amat buncit. hahahahah

11. Dilarang bersiul dalam rumah nanti ular masuk.
--->err. saya tak tau nak komen apa. nasib baik saya tak reti bersiul.

12. Tak boleh tunjuk pelangi nanti jari kudung.
---> langsung teringat Laskar Pelangi.

How Wealthy Are The People Who Speak Malay?
BruDirect.com, by Mabola, Sunday, 22 November 2009

Pic: Upin & Ipin, doing a good job promoting Malay language to the world

In response to the poster 'Good Grief' on 'Malay Is Decomposing And English Gaining', if you notice, the Brunei government has done a lot trying to promote Malay, either language or culture, such examples are like in the school textbooks, in its travel website & tourism, or in sending representatives to international events or expedition, Brunei is careful to choose Malay representatives in contrast with Malaysia and Singapore who promote using different races of people. So why Malay is still 'decomposing' as you stated?

First, as claimed by many, is economy. Overall the total Malay economy is $746 billion. This take into account Brunei, Malaysia and Indonesia together total 250+ million people. However, we need to be reminded that Indonesia is not really Malay. I spoke to my Indonesian friends and they said they are Javanese not Malay. Many people mixed them up. Malay constitutes only 3.4% in Indonesia while the Javanese 42% and the Sundanese 15%, though they are language and cultural cousin.

Despite that though, only slightly more than half of the Indonesians speak Malay. They have over 300 ethnic groups and the rural ones have their own languages. Now, we also need to stress that a $746 billion economy is not actually big, for instance, the Netherlands, a country with 16.5 million people, has an economy of $877 billion. Internationally, the Dutch economy is $885 billion. In other word, with everything being equal, people will find it more economically favorable to learn Dutch than Malay. Someone last mentioned that Japanese and German are spoken in so small parts in the world yet people queuing to learn them. Indeed, because the total Japanese economy is $4,910 billion and the total German economy is $3,673 billion. These figures are huge. The global Chinese economy is $5,142 billion, while the Hispanic (Spanish world) economy is $4,300 billion not taking into account 10% of people in US speak Spanish, and the Francophone (French world) economy is $3,094 billion, the Arabic economy is $1,798 billion. And the English global economy? $21,264 billion.

The next factor we have to consider is the wealth. How wealthy are the people who speak Malay? Switzerland and UAE, though small, attract people to learn about their languages and way of life. Why is that? Because there are a lot of rich people there. These people invested around the world and certainly there are a lot of other people and businesses wanting their money. To have more chance of getting their investment, these people would tend to adapt to their culture and languages.

According to the German news website Spiegel.de and the report from British bank Barclays Financial, Singapore is no.1 in millionaires per capita - with 8.5% of Singaporeans are millionaires. This is followed by Switzerland 6.6%. Hong Kong is 5.3%, Kuwait 5.1% and the United Arab Emirates 4.5%, while US millionaires per capita is only 3.5%, they invest around the world and certainly a number of people would like to adapt to their culture and language for their money.

In the Malay world, even Bruneians aren't that rich, maybe the VIPs but not the ordinary people like you and me. Moreover, the rich here aren't that rich like over $100mln, $500mln or $1bln like others stated above. For Malaysia and Indonesia, a huge bunch are low income people. By that, can you really expect people to look up to the language or culture?

If we want to prop up something like language, we must show achievements. Otherwise I don't think we are capable to challenge the social and economic forces, especially the youth.

Day 4: Enjoying Jakarta

Day 4, 27th October 2009

Puncak is the popular name for the area surrounding the peak of Mt.Gede-Pangrango, located in the Bogor-Cianjur-Sukabumi regencies, in the province of West Java, Indonesia. The name literally means peak in Indonesian.

This area is a popular holiday area for the residents of Jakarta, the capital city, and its satellite cities. It has fresh air and mountain scenery. The area is about two hours drive from Jakarta.

Aksi on the way ke Puncak, dengan mekap yang masih utuh

1st stop, Taman Bunga Nusantara.

Was dead tired and sleepy due to lack of sleep (Naem dan Kak Im, syhhh!) so I took the chance to lie down and even took a nap under the shade of a tree. Nyamannyaaa!!

Sayang Shah Rukh Khan couldn't make it.

Aneh.

"Tum pase aye...yum mus ku raye...tum nena jane kya...sapne dhe kaaayeee..."

Aksi compare size dihadapan batu perasmian Taman Bunga Nusantara. Hahaha.

Naik keretapi comel berkeliling taman.

Family photo

Makannnnnn...

Lunch di Rindu Alam. We had nasi padang yang tak sempat difoto langsung habis. I had mango juice yang yummeh, Im and Naem had es alpokat.

Yes, Paris Hilton is my bff. Very the gedik

The view from the Restaurant. Subhanallah, beautiful.

A stop at Masjid Atta'awun for solat. I couldn't go it, but according to Mom and Naem who did, it's beautiful inside. They have glass walls all around, so u are surrounded by keindahan alam ciptaan Allah. A must stop if you come to Puncak.

Next, Off to Bogor!!
Bogor (Indonesian: Kota Bogor) is a city in West Java with a population of approximately 800,000 people in the CBD area and 2,000,000 in suburban area, bringing a total of 3 million population. It was the capital of Indonesia during the British occupation under Stamford Raffles and was used as the capital by the Dutch during the dry season, then known as Buitenzorg (possibly meaning "beyond worry", but it could also refer to "country side" (buiten) and "care" (zorg), like in "buitenhuis", meaning country house).

Kata Encik Pacar, Roti Unyil is a must-eat kalau ke Bogor. Dah catit, tapi lupa nak tanya Roti Unyil tu menatang apa? Sampai dikedainya, tercangak-cangak.

Harganya Rp1,150 satu (about 50sen).

Kata Andre, supir kami, namanya kuih cubit. Kata Aie, namanya...

Kuih Tetek.

*krik, krik, krik*

Si Cantik Dari Daerah Tropis. Hmm. Well said.

Kebun Raya Bogor
The Bogor Botanical Gardens (Indonesian: Kebun Raya) are located 60 km south of the capital of Jakarta in Bogor, Indonesia. The botanical gardens are situated in the city center of Bogor and adjoin the Istana Bogor (Presidential Palace). The gardens cover more than 80 hectares and was build by Java's Dutch Governor-General Gustaaf Willem, Baron van Imhoff who was governor of Java at the time.
The extensive grounds of the presidential palace were converted into the gardens by the German-born Dutch botanist, Professor Casper George Carl Reinwardt. The gardens officially opened in 1817 as 's Lands Plantentuin ('National Botanical Garden') and were used to research and develop plants and seeds from other parts of the Indonesian archipelago for cultivation during the 19th century. This is a tradition that continues today and contributes to the garden's reputation as a major center for botanical research.

Today the garden contains more than 15,000 species of trees and plants located among streams and lotus ponds. There are 400 types of exceptional palms to be found along the extensive lawns and avenues, helping the gardens create a refuge for more than 50 different varieties of birds and for groups of bats roosting high in the trees. The bats can be easily detected by the noise they make while competing for space under the canopies. The orchid houses contain some 3000 varieties. In 1862, the Cibodas Botanical Gardens were founded as an extension of the Bogor garden at Cibodas, approximately 45 kilometers to the southeast of Bogor.

Jujur, sebetulnya saya yang teringin ke sini, sebab nak melihat sendiri Bunga Bangkai or Titan Arum, atau nama saintifiknya Amorphophallus titanum, from Ancient Greek which can be loosely translated to "giant mis-shapen penis". Seriously!

Titan Arum is a flowering plant with the largest unbranched inflorescence in the world. . The titan arum's inflorescence can reach over 3 metres (10 ft) in circumference. Bunga yang indigeous to Sumatera but cultivated in Kebun Raya Bogor ini, adalah cantik gila namun berbau, well...you guessed it, bangkai.

Sayang seribu kali sayang, hanya pucuk bunga bangkai yang kami temui. Sob sob.

In bloom, this is what it looks like

Ngeri.

Aksi wajib ini sebagai penutup

Pulang ke Jakartaaaaaa!
