Kisah Pertualangan ke Bromo (Part 2)

Guess who?

Day 2

Our day started early, pukul 2.30 WIB semua dah terpisat-pisat bangun dari tidur-tidur ayam. Our plan: to catch sunrise diatas Gunung Penanjakan. This seems to be a must do activity if you come to visit Bromo.

The only problem is, we couldn't take the usual route which is by jeep to Mt Penanjakan 1, located just north of the caldera, because we have to pass thru the Sea of Sands to do so, and that's impossible.

So we went to Viewpoint #2, along the trail from Cemoro Lawang to Mount Penanjakan. Sewa jeep rp200rb, we were under the impression we could ride the jeep up to Penanjakan 2. Turns out ditengah jalan, we have to ride a horse dulu, then jalan kaki pulak baruuuu sampai to the viewpoint! ASTAGA!!! *urut dada*

Should I start by telling you how dark it was? Or how the horses greeted us grudgingly? Or how tiny those kuda padi were? Or how terrified I was riding the horsey, knowing we're going thru a really narrow and winding path, yg ditepinya jurang belaka?

Atau. Saya boleh ceritakan. Bagaimana saya. Jatuh. Dari. Kuda. Itu. *shy*

I was really, really nervous at first, all the time thinking, "this freaking horse probably weight less than I do!" Then slowly, I relaxed. Siap sempat berkenalan bertanyakan nama kudaku. Andy, nama diberi. Indah bukan, nama itu? Dengar Shamam kat depan sembang dgn tukang jaga kuda, dengar Soraya menjerit-jerit...somehow it calmed me down. I thought to myself, hey...this horseback riding is not so bad, eh? I could get used to this.

The next thing I know, saya dah jatuh menyembah bumi.

hahahahahhahahahahahhahahhaha!!

Lea kat belakang terkejut sampai tak terkata apa. Kuda saya tersadung batu! Huhuhu. Now, looking back, bersyukur lah tang jatuh tu, on a wider path. Buatnya jatuh kat jalanan sempit, trus jatuh ke jurang...oh nooo! Hahaha...fret not, I wasn't hurt or anything, only my pride was bruised!

After about 25 minutes naik kuda, kena jalan kaki pula naik tangga-tangga yang sudah kacau bilau kondisinya. Masa ni, kesabaran tercabar sungguh. Dah la sejuk gila babs, dah la the air was thick with volcanic ash that it was really difficult for us to breathe, dah la ketar lutut sebab jatuh kuda tak habis lagi, dah la kita semua berusaha nak pertahankan wudu' sbb belum sholat subuh lagi dan diatas sana tiada paip (saya akui, saya tak sukses bertahan)...nak kena jalan kaki lagi? Oh Tuhan.

Tak cukup dengan itu, only Soraya had a torchlight. Lea used her Iphone jadi penerang jalan, saya dan Shamam ni meraba dalam kegelapan. Penjaga kuda Soraya baik hati ikut kitorang half way up the slope. (Tak, saya tak raba dia. Tapi Soraya peluk dia! Hahahahaha!) Everytime I ask him, jauh lagi ke? He'll answer calmly, "2 tikungan, mbak" (Translation: 2 belokan, cik) Lama-lama I couldn't stand it. "Kamu ini, dari tadi 2 tikungan, 2 tikungan muluk!" Dan dengan santun dia berkata..."iya, biar semangat, mbakk". Chessss!!!

(Later we found out, not only is he sweet, dia mirip Bambang Pamungkas! Hiarkhh!!)

Dah sampai Viewpoint #2, we couldn't see much! Mt Bromo, Mt Batok and Mt Semeru terlindung asap dan kabus tebal. Pujuk hati, sabar...paling gak abang bule dekat situ ganteng-ganteng belaka.

Gigih senyum, padahal bukannya nampak mulut!

Tak lama lepas tu, sekumpulan orang Malaysia joined us. Kalau ada yang masih ingat, we were supposed to join a tour group but then decided to go on our own sebab harga yang tour group ni offer tiba2 tak sama with the initial price. So these Malaysians are part of that tour group. An officemate and her sister are also among them, Looking at them, I was sooooo glad we didn't join them! No offence to them, they were tied with the tight schedule. They came up, nampak awan berkabut, then went back down almost straight away coz they had to check out from their hotel by 8. Aiyohh! Aku dah susah payah mintak nyawa nak panjat gunung ni woi, kalau nak kena immediately turun tak nampak view apa-apapun, I'd kill myself!

Tapi last-last semangat kami pun hampir pudar. Dah dekat 2 jam menunggu, bayang-bayang Bromo pun tak nampak. Dalam hati dah mula menyumpah seranah. Tau macam ni, elok duduk manis di hotel je, view pun lawa!

So we started our descend down the hill. Baru 2-3 anak tangga, mat salleh dan minah salleh kat situ melambai-lambai. Feeling diva sangat, kitorang pun lambai balik! Ingatkan diorang cakap bye bye hahahaha rupanya they were calling us to come back! The mist has started to clear up!

Paling jauh yang berkepul asap tu, Mt Semeru. Yang keluar asap tebal on the left tu, Mt Bromo, On the right is Mt Batok.

We're the king of the world!!!

No caption necessary

Minah Korea model Kopiko 3-in-1 coffee

Nasib baik lah diorang panggil kitorang naik atas balik. Akan menyesal ke akhir hayat if we had missed the view. Kalau ikut hati, rasa macam nak upload semua gambar sebab memang indah sangat sangat sangat sangat!

Subhanallah! Cantik sungguh! Ehmm. Talking about the view, of course. (Tapi perempuan dalam gambar pun cantik jugak!!!)

Dah puas berfoto ria, kami pun turun lah ke bawah. Matahari pun sudah mula meninggi, we probably left the hilltop at around 8 WIB. Soraya and I masing-masing dah tobat tak nak naik kuda lagi, more so now since we can see the slopes, takut!

hahahahhaa! sialan, badan segede gini dikasi kuda paling kecil! Pantesan jatuhhhhH!!!

Oh Andy, maafkan lah daku!

to be continued...

I just read this today. Look at the dates...27, 28...Gulp! We were there on the 29th!

WARNING: Eruption of Tenggar caldera in the Mount Bromo volcano complex.
An exclusion zone is currently in place at Mount Bromo. Tourists and hikers are advised that they should not enter within any exclusion zone in the region and to maintain a safe distance at all times. The Indonesian Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (CVGHM) have announced that they expect warning signs to be installed stating the limit radius as may be determined subject to the prevailing eruptive conditions. It is expected that the exclusion zone will be extended significantly as an outcome of the current escalated eruptive activity at the site.

On 23 January, 2011 at 6AM the alert status at Mount Bromo remained at (Level III).

On 27 January serious eruptive activity commenced at the Tenggar caldera in the Mount Bromo volcano complex.

Eruptive activity and responses

Abdul Rachman Saleh Airport (IATA:MLG) at Malang in East Java is subject to closures and operational caution has been recommended for flights arriving and departing from Juanda International Airport (IATA:SUB) in Surabaya. CVGHM recommended the establishment of public areas for the provision of face masks and eye protection. CVGHM also issued a warning to residents to be cautious of ash build up on roofs and other places that may give cause for collapse under the burden of ash. Alerts are current in regard to the possibilities of lahar and lava flows.

Recent history
Since 19 December, 2010 volcanic ash and incandescent material has been thrown up by eruptive activity with a heavy rain of material falling around the crater. Continuous eruptions on 21 January caused a thin ash fall mainly in the village area of Ngadirejo and Sukapura Wonokerto, Probolinggo district. The impact of the heavy rain and volcanic ash from eruptions during December 2010 and January 2011 has resulted in disruption to normal activities and concerns have been raised concerning the local economy, the potential for long term environmental damage, and health problems amongst the residents in the locality surrounding Mount Bromo.

Due to high seasonal rainfall in January 2011 the potential for lahar and lava flow has been raised due to the deposits of volcanic ash, sand and other ejected material that have built up. Activity has been dominated by tremor vibration, eruption of ash plumes and ejection of incandescent material.

People living on the banks of the Perahu Ravine, Nganten Ravine and Sukapura River have been alerted to the possibility of lahar (cold lava) flows, especially if further heavy rainfalls occur in the area around Cemorolawang, Ngadisari and Ngadirejo. Eruptions and volcanic tremors were reported on 21 January and 22 January with activity subsiding on 23 January 2011.

CVGHM has issued a warning to residents to be cautious of ash build up on roofs and other places that may give cause for collapse under the burden of ash.

Since 19 December, 2010 volcanic ash and incandescent material has been thrown up by eruptive activity with a heavy rain of material falling around the crater. Regional travel service disruptions
On the 27 January and 28 January Volcanic Ash Advisories issued from the VAAC (Volcanic Ash Advisory Centre located in Darwin Australia reported volcanic ash plumes arising from the Tenggar caldera of Mount Bromo, extending to 5,500 m (18,000 ft) and travelling 370 km (200 nautical mi) to the east and at times to the south east.

At 05:22 (UTC) the Volcanic Ash Advisory Centre Darwin issued a code Orange Alert (downgraded from the previous Red Alert)in relation to the current eruptions at Tegger Caldera. Volcanic ash was observed at a height of 3,600 m (12,000 ft) extending 55 km (30 nautical miles) to the north west. This means that the ash cloud previously effecting the airports of Bali and Lombok will be slowly dissipating and the likelihood of ash directly causing further disruptions to those airports is unlikely at this time. The City of Surabaya is approximately 120 km to the north of the eruption.

Flight disruptions have already effected flights operations through out East Java, Bali and the western sector of West Nusa Tenggara. It should be expected that any significant ongoing ash producing eruptions will continue to cause disruption to aviation operations in the region.

If already in the area please consider your need to remain there. If contemplating travel to the area you should anticipate that services including the provision of accommodation, tourism related activities and facilities, civil services and travel arrangements may be disrupted, most especially if the current eruptive activity is prolonged or escalates in intensity.

You should monitor the media for information concerning flight disruptions if you are considering travel to or from the Mount Bromo area, Malang or within other parts of East Java, Bali, Lombok and Sumbawa.
