My Jakarta (Updated)

Bunderan HI

Just last week, a friend, an Indonesian, asked me, what do I like about Jakarta? Then 2 days later, spoke to my cousin who said "taubat nak pergi Jakarta! Dengan traffic jam nya, dengan pollution nya, eiii...cukup lah sekali!"

Dan saya, who have been to Jakarta for more times than I care to share, belum serik dan belum puas lagi ke situ. For me personally, I prefer Jakarta than Bandung, dan saya tahu ramai yang bingung. Kenapa??

So I'd like to share 2 perkara yang saya suka tentang Jakarta! :-D

1. The shopping. Setiap kali memikirkan Jakarta, pasti sudah terbayang-bayang Pasar Tanah Abang, the BIGGEST textile market in Southeast Asia!

Pasar Tanah Abang

Kalau tak silap, Pasar Tanah Abang terbahagi kepada beberapa bahagian. Ada Metro Tanah Abang yang menjual baju-baju secara borong pada harga yang muraaaah, (if you come to Metro, try not to come on Monday. Isnin hari stok baru masuk dan juga hari stok dikirim kepada pelanggan mereka di seluruh pelusuk Indonesia, so there'll be lots of activities going on, huge HUGE parcels going in and out and all over the place, it's really hard to walk let alone see what might interest you), Jembatan Tanah Abang, Blok A dan B of Pasar Tanah Abang. Biasanya kalau supir taksi tanya, Tanah Abang di mana? Bilang aja Blok A, he'll know where to take you.

Nahh, masalahnya begitu sampai, you wouldn't know where to go. Kalau masa tak cukup, saya sikat tingkat 5 je), even 1 floor that houses a foodcourt, TENABANG, and they have sooooo many warung to choose from, it'll make your head spin!

Kenapa saya lebih suka Pasar Tanah Abang compared to Pasar Baru di Bandung? Well. Lima, although kawasan diluar Pasar Tanah Abang ni memang macet cet cet, once you get inside, it's actually quite pleasant and not congested. Got aircond some more!

The easiest way for me to get here, is by ojek. What is ojek, I know you might ask. It's basically a motorcycle taxi, the best way to beat the famous Jakarta traffic.

Tukang Ojek

You usually need to haggle on the price 1st before you hop on the bike. Sekarang dah ada khidmat Tukang Ojek Professional, http://www.go-jek.com/eng/. Tinggal di telefon, GO-JEK calculates all fares by distance and is agreed upon upfront.

Itu kalau pergi. Time pulang, nak balik dengan barang berbondong-bondong tu, takkan nak naik ojek? Nah...saya naik bajaj! (read: Ba-jai)

Before you say, "skerinya naik bajaj!", imagine 5 adults sitting together at the back of that thing. Boleh bayangkan? Nah.

2. The food. Glorious, magnificent food. Bebek goreng, batagor, iga penyet, ketoprak, bakso, mie ayam, sate kambing, nasi padang, nasi gila, tahu gejrot, siomay...ho mai ho maiii...the list goes on and on and on! The last time I was there, my boyfriend and I went to this street foodcourt in Menteng, and I ordered soooo many things sampai dia tercengang. Habis pulak tu, licin licau!

ok. jadi lapar nih!

Iga Penyet & Iga Goreng Tepung...aku kangennnnn kalian!! (FYI, Iga=ribs)

Iya, saya suka shopping dan saya doyan makan. Don't judge me please :p

Additional info:

A lot of people selalu tanya, where to stay in Jakarta?? Just like KL, it could be hard to find hotel yang mesra poket, berlokasi baik dan kondisinya memuaskan (Read: not a whorehouse)

Jadi disini saya list out some of my favorite hotels, semoga membantu:

1. Studio One Residence, Jalan Talang Betutu

Walking distance from Grand Indonesia Mall, altho I have never really done it. Biasanya I would just walk down the road about 100m from the hotel, ada Pos Ojek. Hahaha...naik ojek je, malas nak jalan kaki weh! At Rp300rb per nite (approximately RM110), saya suka hotel ini sebab bersih, saiznya lumayan, katilnya selesa, tight security (you get chip-embedded cardkey, so u can only go to the floor where your room is) dan dekat ke Tanah Abang juga. Naik ojek ke Tanah Abang, rp10rb saja. What I dont like about this place pulak, it's located in a residential area, tak ada tempat makan nearby the place. The breakfast provided is basically coffee and bread with butter. And altho dekat nak mati dengan GrandIndonesia, kalau nak jalan kaki balik hotel malam2 hari agak skeri juga.

Stayed here a couple of time, boleh book online here http://www.studio-one.co.id/

2. Formule 1, Menteng

It's heaven if you are a foody like me!!! At around 5pm, right smack sebelah hotel ni gerai-gerai makanan mula dibuka sampai pagi pagi buta. Time tu rasa macam semuaaaa pun nak makan! I ordered siomay, sate padang with nasi impit, sate kambing with rice, tahu gejrot, teh botol, es alpukat...yumm!

Eh salah, harusnya cerita tentang hotel. I was informed that this building used to be a mall, Menteng Plaza. Bila gulung tikar, tukar jadi hotel pulak. Hehehe...satu malam di hotel tu, cost me Rp355rb (about rm130). What I do like about the hotel is the location. Dekat nak kemana-mana! Senang nak cari makan (ini penting wooo!). Bilik nya bersih, dan selesa. Cuma kecil sikit dari Studio One Residence. And the room I stayed in, katilnya ada sedikit goyang. Not far away ada Dunkin Donuts.

Nak book online, boleh di sini www.hotelformule1.com

3. Take's Mansion, Jl. Kebon Sireh

Probably one of Jakarta's best kept secret hehehe never heard of the place before until I came across it in www.booking.com. Great location, I actually walked from the hotel to Bunderan HI di waktu matahari tegak atas kepala. Hahaha...when I check my pedometer, jaraknya lebih kurang 3km. Gigih! Tapi kalau naik taksi pun senang je.

Rooms for as low as Rp240rb (about rm90), I stayed in a Studio room yang lengkap dengan kitchen bagai! And it costs me rp290rb (dalam rm105) per nite.

Saya suka hotel ini sebab, murah, dekat ke Tanah Abang (naik bajaj dlm rp10rb), dekat nak kemana-mana, the room was HUGE, senang cari makan, it's facing a main street jadi tak dodgy, breakfastnya enak, ada swimming pool sum more altho I didnt get a chance to use it. What I dont like about it is, the room wasn't as clean as I hope it would be.

Not sure about the rates now tho, I took a look at their website and it seems to have been revamped, with new rates too. Nevertheless, it's still worth to check out www.takesmansion.com

yah, semoga bermanfaat! :-D

My vote goes to jakarta, of coz. Jakarta might not have touristy places like Bandung tapi shopping wise, win!

If you still wanna do some sightseeing, take a day trip to Puncak and Bogor.
